Here is an ultra tasty meatball dish where you will not be able stop dunking your bread in! If you don’t think it’s too much, try it with bulgur rice and ayran (a drink made with yoghurt).
500 grams of twice milled minced meat
2 onions grated thinly, 1 onion
7 – 8 cloves of garlic
1 red, 1 yellow , 1 green bell pepper , 2 ripe tomatoes
2 slices of stale bread ( without the crust)
1 tablespoon of tomato paste
Salt, pepper , cumin ( 1 teaspoon) , meatball spice ( 1 teaspoon ) , oregano ( 1 teaspoon )
1 egg , 6 – 7 black pepper corns , 1 / 2 bunch of parsley and dill, 2 bay leaves
1 cup of extra virgin olive oil
Place the minced meat inside a hollow bowl. Add moistened bread crumbs, egg, grated onion, salt, pepper, meatball spice, cumin, oregano, parsley, dill and 4 of the crushed garlic. Knead thoroughly and form meatballs with a round or oval shape. Then fry all sides on a sizzling pan with oil. Inside another hollow pan first arrange thinly cut onions, then the meatballs and place the remaining garlic cloves in the gaps. Slice the tomatoes and place them on the meatballs along with 2 bay leaves. Cut the peppers lengthwise and place them on top. Sprinkle salt, black pepper corns and oregano. Dilute the tomato paste with a little water and pour it over the dish. Finally, add 2-3 teaspoons of the cooking oil. Place the lid and cook on low heat.
